CTAsia at F1Rocks™ Singapore with LGThe streets of Singapore were brought to a standstill over the last weekend of September, when racegoers descended upon the Marina Bay area in anticipation of the Formula 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. But the race was not the only attraction in town that weekend. The inaugural F1 Rocks™ Singapore with LG event also took place, spanning the three day race weekend and featuring global rock and pop superstars such as No Doubt, Beyonce, Jacky Cheung, ZZ Top, Black Eyed Peas and Simple Minds. F1 Rocks™ Singapore with LG provided the total entertainment experience for F1 and music fans alike, with a series of live performances from the world’s most iconic music acts together with celebrities from the world of fashion, sport and film. Contracted by long time global client, Done and Dusted, CT Asia supplied the LED screens and video control for the event, held at the historic Fort Canning Park in the centre of Singapore. The stage design called for an 83m2 HD screen as a backdrop for the visiting global acts, as well as side panels of low resolution LED as stage décor for the wings. Two IMAG screens used for close ups were positioned on the left and right of the stage. A complex video control facility was also provided by CT Asia which seamlessly switched between the touring video systems travelling with the artists, Done and Dusted’s ten camera HD flypack, two Catalyst media servers and three Green Hippo V3HD media servers. In addition, the signal distribution for event sponsor LG’s multiple displays around the site were also provided by CT. “Right from the start, we knew that we would need Vista Spyder as the core of the switching system,” said Charlie Whittock, Managing Director, CT Asia. “On any one night we were switching between multiple DVI, HDSDI PAL and HDSDI NTSC sources. Of course each of these sources needed to reach the screens seamlessly and we planned for the ability to send any source to any screen. All these sources had to look identical on camera so we used Spyder to scale and frame rate convert.” Lighthouse R7-ER was chosen for the main backdrop and IMAG screens, whilst Element Labs Stealth was used for the low resolution screens in the wings. The Vista Spyder 8 x 8 system was supplemented with a Grass Valley Kayak HDSDI flypack. All signal distribution was over optical fibre. Over 30,000 people attended the three day F1 Rocks™ Singapore with LG concert held at Fort Canning Park from the Thursday through to the Saturday which came to a fitting finale by Beyonce's bootylicious performance at midnight on the last night.
