European Indoor Athletics

August 2007

Building on a long standing relationship with Fastrack as suppliers to all major UK Athletics events Creative Technology London supplied a100m2 integrated display for the European Indoor Championships.

The vast screen supplied was a development from a similar sized system installed for the 2003 World Indoor Championships in the same venue. However the functionality was massively improved. In 2003 whilst the display appeared as one unit it was in effect three screens suspended side by side. In 2007 the display was a single canvass 2,180 pixels wide x 480 high. Driven via a Vista Spyder System live images, recorded graphics and real time results could be displayed either across the entire surface or in a variety of Windows configured for the various formats.

Traditionally at major sporting events the Video replay and scoring functions have been kept separate, mainly because Video Boards haven’t offered the same degree of clarity as bespoke scoreboard displays. CT have developed a unique scoring interface receiving data direct from the events timing and results supplier. Thus creating real time scoreboard graphics as DVI files accurately pixel matched to the screen resolution.

"The result is incredible clarity of text, which we have now been able to combine with live images and animations via the Spyder" comments Dave Crump. "We have worked closely with Fastrack to develop this application, so far as we are aware this is the most advanced innovative audience information display used in any sporting environment“.
